PT Maskapai Reasuransi Indonesia Tbk, known as Marein, is the first national reinsurance company in Indonesia and the first reinsurance company to be publicly listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The company was founded on June 4, 1953 by Indonesian insurance industry figures such as Soeparjan, the late Willy Wuwungan, the late Lie Kian Seng, the late Prof. Dr. TSG Mulia, the late Bahar Nasution, the late Th. S. T. Gautama, and the late Idham. In 1980, AJB Bumiputera 1912 became Marein’s major shareholder and was followed by other insurance companies such as PT Asuransi Jiwa Panin Putera and PT Asuransi Jiwa Bumi Asih Jaya. In 1986, Marein successfully apportioned its dividends to shareholders for the first time. In 1988, PT Dharmala Sakti Sejahtera became the major shareholder. On March 24, 1990, Marein executed it’s first Limited Public Offering, and raised paid-up capital from Rp 7.0 billion to Rp 9.1 billion. On May 25, 1990, a decision was made at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders to raise the authorized capital from Rp 10.0 billion to Rp 30.0 billion.
