Turkuaz has made a name since it first opened in July 2011 by producing delectable cuisines by using the finest ingredients available. Now Turkuaz has expanded its wings by opening Turkuaz Authentic Baklava House located next to the existing restaurant, Jalan Gunawarman No. 32 Kebayoran Baru, under the umbrella of owner and Head Chef Sezai Zorlu.
Chef Sezai Zorlu was born in 1974 in Iskenderun, south east of Turkish Mediterranean coast to a farmers family, where he spent his time helping at his grandparent’s farm from early age in the fields with his four brothers and many of his cousins picking seasonal fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs. Being the second of the five boys, he was obliged to assist his mother to prepare all the necessary ingredients for winters, such as pomegranate sauce, tomato and chili paste; drying herbs and wheat, by doing he developed the love for cooking.
Contemplating his mother and grandmother cooking through the years, he got fascinated by the genuine flavors and aroma of the traditional kitchen, day after day witnessing these preparations for joyful feasts at the patio of his grandparent’s house with all his family, the chef instinct was born.
This experience made him inherit the family recipes to keep alive his mother and grandmother’s memories through cooking.
Sezai straight away joined his father’s restaurants in Singapore, gaining valuable experience from him, who was himself the personal chef of a royal family.His professional career began.
Sezai arrived to Jakarta in 1999, soon he was titled as the Turkish cuisine ambassador, he was awarded several times as Jakarta’s best Chef.
To pursue his lifelong dream he formed his own restaurant TURKUAZ.
Which received much acclaim as one the best restaurant in Jakarta, the desire to complete the authentic experience; he has conceptualized a unique pastry boutique mastering the art of the Ottoman Empire era desserts.
